Phillip Tirman, MD

Medical Director, Musculoskeletal Imaging - Renaissance Imaging, Westlake Village, CaliforniaDr. Phillip Tirman is a nationally recognized expert in the applications of Magnetic Resonance Imaging for evaluating orthopedic, sports medicine, and spine disorders. He is the co-author of three textbooks, including Shoulder Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Diagnostic Imaging: Orthopaedics. He is also the author or co-author on over sixty original scientific articles published in the radiology and orthopedic literature.Born in California and the son of a U.S. Air Force Radiologist, Dr. Tirman lived in Europe as a child then moved to Arkansas where his father retired from the military and became a University professor of Radiology. Dr. Tirman attended both college and medical school at the University of Arkansas. He did his radiology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and did fellowship training in magnetic resonance imaging at Cottage Community Magnetic Resonance Center in Santa Barbara and the San Francisco Magnetic Resonance Center (SFMRC) in San Francisco where he continued to practice and was named Medical Director. Dr. Tirman was subsequently recruited from SFMRC to the prestigious National Orthopedic Imaging Associates Group. Dr. Tirman is now the Medical Director of Musculoskeletal Imaging at the Renaissance Imaging Center in Westlake Village, California.Dr. Tirman is a manuscript reviewer for Radiology, the American Journal of Roentgenology, and the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He is a widely sought lecturer and has spoken at over 60 international meetings and has been a pioneer of continuing medical education utilizing webinar technology with OCAD MSK.Dr. Tirman is also a food and wine connoisseur and is the author of the popular book The Wine and Food Lover's Diet which was a James Beard award nominee.Click here to see Dr. Tirman's interesting cases on the Global Radiology CME blog
